14 May FOUR COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT NON-METHOD ACTING THAT NEED TO BE CLARIFIED
The Heller Approach is revolutionary for introducing its Non-Method Acting Approach. However, many people may have some misconceptions about this approach and how it is taught. In the interest of clarification; we would like to clear up some wrong ideas about Non-Method Acting:
- Non-Method Acting is “Winging It” – Nothing can be further from the truth. Non-method acting requires a significant degree of Preparation and Execution just to get a portrayal right. It requires practice and dedication to the craft in much the same way that other acting approaches do.
- Non-Method Acting is a relatively new approach to acting – Non-Method Acting has been around for a while. The Heller Approach is actually based on the work and lessons of Don Richardson; who published the book Acting without Agony: An Alternative to the Method in 1988.
- Non-Method Acting classes are serious affairs – At The Heller Approach Acting Studio, we believe that acting should be fun! Our classes are not emotionally-draining therapy sessions where people talk about traumatic life experiences. Instead; we focus on teaching a simple, structured way of working without it having to be a self-dissecting experience.
- You need to go to California to study Non-Method Acting – While it is true that our acting school is in the Burbank area; we offer long-distance acting classes via webcam over Skype™. We are one of the first acting schools to do this, and we have students from China, Venezuela, Bahrain, and England.
