The Heller’s Approach to Looking Deep into the Material

To be an effective actor, you need to be as realistic as possible. Unfortunately, a lot of actors still don’t fully grasp the importance of completely immersing oneself into the character, especially those who weren’t able to prepare through an online camera acting course.

Ace acting coach Brad Heller has a long history of working with both beginner and professional actors for different genres. Being an actor himself and with an educational background in theater, Heller has developed a deep understanding of the art of acting and has since taught hundreds of students through private acting classes and now, even Zoom acting classes that allowed them to build their own successful acting careers.

If you ask Heller one of the most important foundations of effective acting, it has to be looking deep into the material and exploring one’s character. In this video, Heller showed different clips from acting scenes in the hit TV series “After Life” and here are a few tricks that you can learn from it:

  • You need to study your character. As an actor, it’s your responsibility to study your character before you walk into a script read or a set. Who are you in this story? What role do you play? What impact do you want to give to your audience?

  • Explore your material. Now that you know who you are in the story, you need to immerse yourself in that character. Run every line with conviction and explore every scene, so you know exactly how to attack it. Remember that no line is too strong if you don’t deliver it with substance, so make sure that you go over your script and really understand each line as it relates to your story.

  • Read your script repeatedly. A lot of good actors always read their scripts as many times as they can, not only because they want to memorize it but also because they want to build that character in them as they become more familiar with their lines. Heller’s acting classes on Zoom will also teach you the same thing, and it will benefit you to make it a habit as you go on with your career.

There’s no denying that Brad Heller is one of the best in the business when it comes to teaching actors how to become effective and convincing in their roles. So, if you’re an aspiring actor or you’re already one and you want to improve your craft, you can benefit from taking scene study classes online where you get to work with the best in honing your skills in digging deeper into your material and really immersing yourself in your character and the story that you’re involved in.
