24 Mar In-Between Gigs, Part II
In a world where Covid-19 is taking over, and the industry is on a temporary hiatus (for the most part)–now is a better time than ever to learn a new skill, update your materials, and work on enhancing you.
Therefore, there are so many things you can do to enhance your acting career without waiting for that next audition, gig, or booking. In addition to the items in Part I, here are some more activities you can do to enhance your acting career:
- Update Your Casting Profiles and Websites. Want that audition? Want that booking? New year, new you. While you’ve got the downtime, take a sweep on your casting sites and make sure all of your information is correct. Thus, take a look at Actors Access, LA Casting/Casting Breakdowns, Casting Frontier, 360Casting, and any other casting sites around the world that may be best suited for the area in which you currently live.
- Read Acting Books. There are many books you can read to not only help with acting, but to help with the business side of things. For example, Self-Management for Actors is a book all about how to manage your acting career without a manager, not matter where you are or in what level of your acting career.
- Learn a New Language. As actors, we always strive to be unique, stand out, and engage in our careers, and what better way to get another special skill than learning a new language? Many projects are filmed in different countries, different languages, or even being dubbed in multiple languages. Therefore, there are many languages to learn.
- Learn a New Dialect. There are a lot of Oscar winners who are not native to the United States, or likewise, there are many American actors who play a character with an accent or dialect. Take some time and learn a new dialect.
- Become and enrichment instructor or teacher. While waiting for the next paying gig and performance opportunity, why not commit to both? Teach acting and improv to kids where, not only can you make money and work on your performance skills, but you can pass those skills on to others in addition to taking your own classes with Brad Heller and other coaches. These can also be navigated online via Zoom or Skype as well.
